The Two-Step Process
1. Vacuum Compression: This is the first step. The sofa components (primarily the foam seating and backrest cushions) are placed inside a heavy-duty poly bag. A massive industrial press flattens the foam while a vacuum simultaneously extracts all the air. The bag is then heat-sealed, creating a flat, rigid, and incredibly dense package.
2. Roll-Packing: Once the sofa is vacuum-compressed into a flat state, it is often fed into a secondary machine that rolls the flat package into a cylindrical shape. This rolled shape is what allows a full-size sofa to fit into a relatively small, rectangular cardboard box.
